2013 Porsche Cayenne

best car 2013 Porsche Cayenne

The 2013 Porsche Cayenne ranks 4 out of 19 Luxury Midsize SUVs. This ranking is based on our analysis of 71 published reviews and test drives of the Porsche Cayenne, and our analysis of reliability and safety data.

Reviewers say the 2013 Porsche Cayenne is one of the best-performing SUVs on the market and coddles its occupants with a luxurious interior, but its high price tag and limited cargo space may make it less practical than rivals.

The Porsche Cayenne has plenty of engine options, ranging from the base V6 to a turbocharged V8 found in the Cayenne Turbo. The base model comes with a six-speed manual transmission or an optional eight-speed automatic. All other models have the eight-speed automatic. Fuel economy depends on the powertrain, and ranges from an average-for-the-class 15/23 mpg city/highway with the base trim up to an excellent 19/29 mpg with the all-new diesel trim. Regardless of the model, reviewers say the Cayenne has powerful engines, a smooth automatic transmission and exceptional handling. Critics are impressed with how the Cayenne stays flat in corners and say that its ride is comfortable and the steering responsive. Additionally, test drivers praise the eight-speed automatic transmission for its smooth, prompt shifts.

Reviewers say the five-seat 2013 Cayenne offers an upscale cabin, made with high-quality materials and great fit and finish. Critics say the seats are comfortable all-around and that visibility from the driver’s seat is excellent. Some auto writers call the Cayenne’s cargo space competitive, but some say it doesn’t match some class leaders. For a highly-priced SUV, the Cayenne doesn’t come equipped with as many standard features as rivals like the Audi Q7, and unlike many competitors, higher trims don’t add much to the standard features list. Standard features include a 10-speaker stereo with a 7-inch touch-screen display and leather seats. There are lots of options, which are either available as stand-alone options or as part of expensive packages. Optional equipment includes Bluetooth, an upgraded Bose or Burmester sound system, navigation, a backup camera and a rear-seat entertainment system.
